Emma's first birthday is quickly approaching. I've been inundated with questions as to what to get her. My response? Nothing.
People press because... well, I don't know.
So, here's what Emma wants for her 1st birthday.
Emma and her parents want you to help another girl who's been thrown a curve ball. Her name is Mckindree Patton, and she is one of my amazing students. Read Mckindree's story.
Mckindree helps set up blood drives. Please sign up for one if you live in the Valley. Blood is a lifesaver for many people and it's so easy to do. (Plus, you get juice and snacks!) The dates for the blood drives are April 28th, July 14th and October 20th. You can sign up on the United Blood Services Website and use the sponsor code: san tan
Also, Another EXCITING part of this day will be that the National Bone Marrow Registry--Be the Match will be on site (more information atbethematch.org)! In 10 minutes, YOU CAN POTENTIALLY SAVE A LIFE! You simply fill out the form and swab your cheeks in four places. If you would like to do this, please email Mckindree's mom, Aimee!
Let me tell you something. Everyday I cuddle my sweet Emma, I think how lucky we are that she is healthy. I am constantly thanking God for our gift. Part of being a teacher is seeing and knowing things about your students that break you heart. I truly feel connected to Mckindree's cause and I have no explanation for why. I just really feel the need to help her and other kids like her.
So, if you want to get my sweet baby something for her birthday, sign up to donate blood or to get your cheek swabbed. No amount of presents can possibly outweigh saving a child's life.
Thanks!
Love,
the Lou Baby
