Ending Countdown... 38 weeks

I'm ending our countdown, because I refuse to blog each day for the next three weeks. Yep, I said it. THREE WEEKS. That puts me at 41 weeks. Argh.

We went to the doctor today and got checked. No dilation or any of the other crazy 'pregnancy' measurements. Then, we were told our options. 39 weeks: she can strip something but if I'm not dilated, it won't work. 40 weeks: they can attempt induction at the hospital with some gel, but if it doesn't work they send us home. Uh, no thanks. 41 weeks, induction and we don't leave unless we have a baby. I'm a fan of the last option only because I don't want to get my hopes up or spend a day at the hospital if nothing is guaranteed. Plus, all selfish reasons aside, she's healthy so there really isn't a need to push her out of her cozy uterine home. I am planning for 41 weeks. That way, if she comes early, it's a good surprise! However, I don't think that's gonna happen.

  1. um, i'm sorry :(
you're right that she'll make her appearance when she's ready. also, i'm about to say something super annoying that i hate when others say it but here goes...try and enjoy these last days/weeks/whatever as a family of two. sleep as much as possible, enjoy the couple time, go to a movie, go shopping...these things will never, ever be a simple thing. trust me!
on the other hand, if you're dying to have this baby...sex helps :) anything you can do to avoid membrane stripping or being induced seems like a great idea.

  2. Walk a lot and let gravity do most of the work for you!
Hate to say this, Beth, but she is a true first born and is exhibiting control issues already!

  3. Hey Beth. I just saw on your FB page that you started a blog. I also had no change (nothing at all!) with my son until 40 weeks. Two days later I was I'm the hospital getting gels and left with no change. At my appointment the next day, I was 1cm and slight softening. That day my Dr. stripped my membranes, which is quite painful! He still didn't come out until 4 days later.

I think you made a good choice in waiting. Inducing when your body isn't ready only leads to a greater chance of c-section (based on my research). Emma will come when she's good and ready! You're going to do just fine! Congrats! (go on lots of dates and leave the house whenever you want just because you can. It takes much longer once she's here.)
